Auto Accident Check List


If you are involved in an accident, especially if someone is injured or there is substantial property damage, try to collect the following information from the other driver:



Before moving any of the vehicles involved, attempt to note the following:
(Take pictures if you can)

  • Position of all the vehicles involved.
  • The presence of any tire marks, broken glass, vehicle debris, etc.
  • Location of the accident to the center of the road and any other landmarks of features on the road.



  • While the accident is still fresh in you memory, record the following information:

  • Date and time of the accident.
  • Location of the accident.
  • Your speed just before the accident.
  • The traffic conditions before the accident.
  • The weather conditions.
  • The road conditions.
  • The direction of travel for all vehicles involved before the accident.
  • Was any vehicle turning? Did that vehicle use a turn signal?
  • If the accident was at night, did you have your lights on? Did the other vehicles?
  • Any other important information.
